St. John's Statement of Identity
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we at St. John's United Church of Christ are a Christian Family who:
- SEE the divine spark of God in all people and in all of God's creation.
- SUPPORT one another; in humility and prayer as we strive to grow in our Christian faith, and
- SERVE our church, our communities, our world by reaching out to everyone with the unconditional love and grace of God!
ABOUT US

HISTORY
We celebrated 190 years in 2025!
The journey began in 1835 when a group of families organized, and
the following year were chartered, as “The United German Evangelical Lutheran and German Evangelical Reformed St. John’s Congregation of Tiffin.”
In 1899 the name was shortened to “The German Evangelical St. John’s Church.” In 1957 the national combining of denominations resulted in the creation of the United Church of Christ. As a
result, the congregation voted to change the name to St. John’s United Church of Christ.
The third version of the church building and a parsonage were erected at the corner of Main Street and Jefferson Street with the dedication being in May of 1919. The Bloomville stone structure is still in use today. An enlarged parking lot was added in 2017.
There have been thirty-two ministers who have led the congregation over its history. Two ministers, Reverend Ira R. Harkins and Reverend David M. Culp, have been honored with the title of pastor emeritus. Reverend Culp, the church’s longest serving minister, served the congregation for thirty-one years before his retirement in
2009. The church’s present minister is Reverend Audra Ferguson.
VALUES
St. John's UCC is about inclusivity.
We want everyone whom walks through our doors to feel welcome.
We work hard in making a positive impact on our community and the world with our wide range of mission projects.
We also believe in empowering our youth to do good works in this world, not just by being good examples but by giving them chances to give back as well.
